Project Web Access (or otherwise) user connect limit?

I've been told the licensing is concurrent vs. named for web
connection.

Is there a way to control within Project Server the number of
concurrent users logged on at once to tie back to your licensing
situation or is it basically done on the "honor system"?

Please clarify in general how the PWA licensing is supposed to work.

Thanks,
Andy

It's "Per Seat", not concurrent.

If you have 1000 users, you need 1000 CALs, even if some users look
at the data once a month (such as an Exec).

That means, everyone in your resource pool needs a license.

That means each Project Server Authenticated user needs a license.

If you want to get technical, every device needs a license; meaning,
if you have two computers that you use, you need 2 licenses even
though you are only 1 person.

Only inactive users do not need licenses.

(That's why I don't understand why anyone will use AD to add users
because even if an AD user never uses the system, they need a CAL
for being in the resource pool as an "active".)

And no, there is no way to control how many people can log on
at one time; nor is there a control for license counts, so your
watchdog department (IT, accounting, etc.) has to keep a
close tab on it...

You can always contact your vendor and get exact wording...

Rick:

Your information is not entirely correct. For instance, in a per-seat
license environment, a Project user can install to two devices provided that
they serve the same user. You can license Project Server on a per-seat or
per-device basis. If you have multiple users who share the same machine,
such as happens in a 2 or 3-shift arrangement, it's possible to have one
license serve multiple people

My advice to all is to contact Microsoft for licensing information and not
use the peer-to-peer newsgroups to obtain this information. Of course, you
sometimes need to question the information you get from Microsoft, but
that's another story.<vbg>
