Project Web Access Very Slow To Respond to Requests.

Hi All, I have three production MSP 2007 instances and three dev/test
instances. All six instances are quite slow to responde to an initial
request for project web access. If I click on a favorite link to PWA or
enter the address manually, once I hit enter it taks up to 20 seconds for the
main PWA page to load. After it loads once it will load in 1-2 seconds
everytime there after but the inital load after being away from the page for
10+ minites goes at a snales page. I hahve not had this problem in MSP 2003
PWA.

Anyone else have very slow load times on PWA hope page when accessed for the
first time in 10+ minites?

Jay:

The entire environment tends to go to sleep after a period of inactivity,
however 10+ minutes is an extraordinary wait. While slow initial loads are
to be expected, this type of delay indicates that there might be another
problem happening at the server or network level.

Thanks for the Reply Gary, just to clarify the page does not take 10+ min to
load. The inital page load of Project Web access takes up to 30 secondes to
load initally. It fine after that each time you access it except if youi
wait for 10+ min and try to access it again. It will be slow to load again
if you wait for 10 min to reload it.

I have seen many reports of this problem with no resolution yet?

Thanks for any direction.

If you have a large number of Projects and Users and make use of dynamic
category rules, the enumeration of projects in views can take some time for
use residing near the top of the RBS.

SP1 has some performance optimisations, so it's well worth installing if you
haven't already.

My early (subjective) impressions of SP1 is that it is slower than
unpatched product. Does anyone have any quantitative performance
stats comparing the two?

Jay:

One thing you can do to make the Home page load faster is to remove the
reminders web part from the page. This seems to take a some time to query
the database, although it is very appropriate home-page content. If you have
a lot of projects, moving the Project Work Spaces web part to its own page
is another good idea. Personally, I'm not thrilled with that on the home
page and frequently move it to its own page and add a Quick Launch item to
access it.
