Project Workspace URL Rename

D

Dave Bush

Periodically our EPMO gets a request to change a project name and also
the workspace title and url. Sometimes I am able to change the URL
successfully and sometimes I am not. I don't get an error message, but
the changed url doesn't stick. Here is what I am doing:

I change the project name in PWA>Project Center>Edit Project
Properties.
Then I go to the workspace and go Site Actions>Site Settings>Title,
description and icon.
I change the title and I change the URL.
Then I go back to PWA>Server Settings>Project Workspaces and I edit
the site address for the project.
Sometimes that works and updates the URL and sometimes it doesn't
work.

We are running MOPS 2007 SP2 with the April CU.

Any insights will be helpful. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Andrew, thanks for keeping me honest and precise.

In this case, what I mean by 'work' is that I type in the new url in
the 'Edit Site Address' dialog, I click 'OK', the dialog box
disappears, the Project Workspace page refreshes and the url I typed
into the dialog box is now displayed next to the corresponding
project. If I click that url it takes me to the project workspace.

'Not work' means I enter the url in the 'Edit Site Address' dialog
box, I click 'Test URL' which spawns a new browser window displaying
the workspace, I then click 'OK', the dialog disappears, but the
Project Workspace page does not refresh with the new name and if I
force a refresh it still shows the old name.

I have several projects with which the procedure I outlined
successfully changes the project workspace URL and I have several
projects that I cannot get the URL to change using the procedure. I am
not sure if I am doing something wrong, or perhaps it is something
about the project or the workspace.

Any ideas? Thanks.

So it's not throwing an error when you hit OK? That setting is really sensitive.
I've typed URL's with the "/" at the end, which work in the test browser
option, but then get the invalid address message when you hit OK.

Just wanted to make sure it wasn't that issue.
