I am trying to save my notebooks to a flash drive, but can't because they are
"read-only". How do I change this? I've lost my notebooks once because of
computer re-imaging and don't want to lost them again!

Try to change the files' attributes in the Windows Explorer.

Did you recover the notebooks from a backup on CD ?
This would explain the "read only" ...
