PRORET.MSI

L

Lori Mitchell

I am trying to add the OfficeXP SP3 to update my office
suite. I have moved and can't find my Office install CD,
but have the case. I downloaded the Admin installation,
and, according to the directions, the CD is not needed.
The installation stops because the update is asking for my
CD! The update is looking for a PRORET.MSI file. I have
searched GOOGLE and found that even if I did have the CD,
the file isn't on there!

I can't access any of my OFFICE programs now because of
the attempted download. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THIS FILE
CAN BE OBTAINED? AND, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMEDY THIS
ISSUE?

I can't believe Microsoft is aware of this and not doing
anything about it. There should at least be a download
available for this PRORET.MSI file, with OfficeXP SP3.

MUCH HELP NEEDED! DEADLINES, DEADLINES, DEADLINES!!!!

Sorry I cannot help you, :-(
I just wanted to let you know that I am having the exact
same problem, except mine is PROPLUS.MSI
I posted on the "Setup" newsgroup; no reply yet.
Please forward, if you get any joy; I will do the same!
Cheers

Hi Lori,

In general, using the Admin install you may not need the CD,
but if the MS Installer software detects the need to repair
something as part of the process it will ask for it and generally
it is assumed that you will have access to either the original
installation CDs or the network server location used to do the
original install.

ProRET.MSI is part of MS Office Professional package. If you
use Start=>Search and look for Pro*.msi do you have a different
MSI file on your hard drive?

Dear Lori,

I had a similar but less serious problem after installing
a symbol viewer for outlook. Windows tried to re-install
each time outlook was started, and it was missing the
proret.msi file.

Solution:

My solution was to press "start" button in the windows
menu - then click "help and support" and finally "system-
restore". Then it is possible to restore windows in a
state which was running before you installed sp3. This
worked for me - hope it works for you as well!

Sorry if the english expressions are not 100% correct
since I use a Danish version of WinXP.

Best regards
Henrik

Excellent way to return to work, but still not a solution. Has anyone solved the missing proret.msi (*.msi) problem yet?

I downloaded a patch and now Xcel will not open. When I click on Xcel, it
tries to install MS XP Professional and asks for the CD for the file
proret.msi.

I do not have the disk; the software came installed on the Dell system; and
like a dummy I didn't realize that I should have gotten a disk as backup.

How do I get Xcel to work again? I have had the system a year and it worked
fine til this week.
