Protect bookmarks in Word 2003?

B

Byron

Does Word 2003 have the capability to protect a bookmark so the user
is warned about deleting it? We currently us Word 2002(XP) and trap
the delete and backspace and check the selection but that doesn't
prevent the user from selecting it and typing another character to
overwrite it.

Thanks,

Hi Byron

Succinctly - No!

Word 2003 has introduced a Style based restriction feature, but this merely limits what
styles/formatting can be applied to text in a document. Otherwise the same kind of
document protect exists as in previous versions. You could conceivably put each bookmark
in it's own protected section, but this in not tenable in practice.

Unless the document is a protected form or read only it's impossible to prevent it being
changed. Even then there are ways around these constraints.

Thank you, Peter. The user does not want a protected form. They want
the ability to type anything, anywhere, any time. I may toy with the
protected ssection bit though it seems like much work.
