my wife was typing some documents (gateway
computer/microsoft word) and somehow the documents got
saved as protected. She (and I) are not sophisticated
users so she has no idea what she did or what key she
hit. The files (about 8 of them) are saved
as "WRL0051.tmp"; the other have different numbers in
them. If I try to open any of them it says "is locked for
editing by another user" All I want to do is delete them;
the system will not allow me to delete these 7 or 8
files. Help!!!!

Those are temporary files. They cannot be deleted while the document that
they are associated with is open. Or, if they're in the Windows Temp folder,
they can't be deleted while Word is open. If all else fails, you should be
able to delete them after restarting Windows. For more, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/DocInUse.htm and "WD: How Word for
Windows Uses Temporary Files [Q211632]" at
