Protected word document question

I have a protected document that has fields where entries are made using the
key board. I want to use the document on a tablet and then be able to use a
tablet pen anywhere on the document - the only way that I can get it to work
is by unprotecting the document which defeats the purpose. Is there some
way of keeping the document protected yet still be able to use the pen
anywhere on the document.?
