Protecting a document with Styles

I have a template created where I used styles. The font is correct until I
protect the document. When I protect the document the fonts that were
originally not bold become bold and vise a versa. What can I do to correct
this or keep this from happening?

Hi Karrie

Before we can help you, I think we need a bit more information.

What version of Word are you using?
How are you protecting the document?
You created a template. What steps are you using to create a new document
from that template?
Is the box at Tools > Templates and Add-ins > Automatically update document
styles ticked? (If so, turn it off and see if the problem remains).

Good Morning Shauna,

I am on Word 2003 (XP).
In the tools menu, I am clicking the Protect Document option. Of course if
there is a better way then I would love to know.
I am not sure if I understand the 3rd question completely. Are you asking
what steps I am took to create this template?

I am not using the templates options from Word. We have created this
ourselves by using styles and tables. Perhaps this was wrong?

Because of new protection features in Word 2003, this feature is a bit
harder to use than it was previously. If you don't have more than one
section (that is, you're protecting the entire document), your best bet is
to use the Protect Document (padlock) button on the Forms toolbar. If you
need to protect specific sections, then you have to use Tools | Protect
Document, then select from the unpromising-looking options in the Task Pane.
The one you want is Editing restrictions: Filling in forms. If you have got
the document protected, though, then I guess you've figured this out?

Shauna's question about how you created the template probably was directed
at ascertaining whether this is a proper .dot template or a document you
plan to reuse. And if the former, did you create it by using New Template in
the File New dialog or by saving a document as a template?
