Protecting cell

I need help in making a cell in Excel more idiot proof. I have to enter a
file number in the cell, ex. 0409-28. The file number will be the same, but
i want to be able to have the cell turn red if the file numbering is not
correct, ex. 37j9-38 or 29009-93 or 67-8e869 (I have seen the number in
various ways). Can anyone help?

You can use conditional Formating under under format
menu...or validation
