protection in cells

How do I protect a block of cells (a totals column) without protecting all the columns in the spreadsheet?

Hi B!

Select all cells on the sheet by pressing the button at the
intersection of Row numbers with column letters
Format > Cells > Protection
Remove check from "Locked"
OK
Select the cells that you want to protect
Format > Cells > Protection
Place check on "Locked"
OK
Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet
Give and confirm password [optional]
OK

But be aware that Excel protection of sheets is little more than a
protection against accidental changes. The protection passwords are
very easily circumvented.
