protection of document auto after spell check???????

how do you prevent protection from automatically
protecting a document when you do a spell check? seems
that all is fine till i do a spell check themn the
protection is enabled automatically and you cant do any
more until you disable it.....i work in a large facillity
and this one machine is the only one i have noticed this
with they have windows x-p pro and office 2002
