Protext DocVariable in a template

Is there a way to protect a DocVariable in a template? Also how do I attach
another document if sending a word document as an email?

I am including my reason for asking because there might be a better way of
achieving my goal.

I have an Access program that automates an email message. Some fields from
the Access program are incorporated in the document by hard coding the text
and concatenating with fields from the application. The user has an option in
an Access form to attach a document or send text only and with both options a
check box to open the email for further editing of the text if required.

The above all works well. However, the users want options to have some of
the text in bold and also an option that they can edit the template and
personalize some of the message. Therefore my initialize thoughts are to
create a Word template with DocVariables for the fields from access and send
the Word document as an email. I can then have a setup option whereby the
Word template can be opened by the user with dummy data for the DocVariable
fields and they can edit the text of the document template but I don't want
them to be able to interfer with the DocVariables.

Any method that you use to protect the docvariable fields will preclude the
user from being able to do what they want to do.

The only thing that you can do is attempt to educate the users.

Thankyou for that reply Doug. It confirms for me that the users are asking
for more than is really practical.

I think I will tell the users to come to a consensus on the main body of the
email text. They already have a setup facility to create their own personal
sign off for the email so as a compromise I will just extend that to include
a final paragraph of their choice. Any further changes they can do on the
individual emails by selecting the option to display for editing before
sending.
