PS 2007 Cube failure

M

Mike Mahoney

I have documented similar issue in the past. This is the latest variant. In
PS2007 having multilevel codes fields makes the system unusable unless you
are a dedicated planner prepared to work with a randomly performing
application.

I am therefore in the proces of flattening my hierarchical codes, which
works fine until you try to build a cube which fails (see details below).
Clearly there are elements in the reporting database which have not been
refreshed by the code changes and this is fatal to the cube. My solution is
to republish every plan. I suspect I don't need to do every plan but error
reporting does not help me focus on plans contributing to the problem. With
the current number of plans this is doable (and fixes the cube build
problem). Therefore the request i(aside from a more robust s/w( is for a
more focussed error message to resolve the issue more quickly.

Mike - multileveled codes (now called Lookup Tables in PS 2007) should work
fine as far as the Reporting Database goes, and you should be getting all
edits to those fields. If you are having issues with the Reporting Database
with Lookup Table edits failing in the Queue, I would love to help if you
would like to pursue it. Just let me know what problems in the RDB and/or
Queue you are seeing and I can try and provide some assistance.

As for which plans need republishing, a quick query of the Publish DB should
tell you which projects are using a particular Custom Field (as long as you
know which Custom Fields are using the impacted Lookup Table).

Thanks,
Sharry
