Mike

Can anyone explain the purpose of this category and how it is
distingishable from My Projects category?

Thanks

Mike

My Personal Projects are those where the user is the Project Owner or the
Status Manager.

My Projects are those above plus where the user is on the project team or
where a resource on the project team is a decendant of the user via RBS.

Hi Ben

I understand the definition but what is the point? It gives enormous
power to members of the PM group to change other PM's plan but
strangely does not let them publish such changes. This surely is a
configuration issue. If there is a local requirement to do this fine
but I fail to see why this specific category has been added to the out-
of-box configuration.

The official word from Microsoft is that the My Personal Projects category
refers to Personal Activity Plans that users can create from the My Tasks
page by clicking the New button and then clicking Personal Activity.
Personal Activity Plans replace the To-Do List functionality feature found
in Project Server 2002 and 2003. We know this because we used our MVP
channels to get a definitive answer from a member of the Project development
team. Our experience has also been that the My Personal Projects category
also seems to interfere with some of the permissions in some of the other
default Categories, so this is certainly problematic with this new Category.
Hope this helps.

Dale

Thanks for that. It makes a little more sense but not sure if it has
been thought thru fully

I agree with your assessment, especially given the fact that this new
Category seems to interfere with the behavior of other default Categories.
I think the Project Server 2007 development team was put under unfair time
restrictions when they were forced to launch their product in conjunction
with the rest of Office 2007. Project Server 2007 is NOTHING like the other
Office products, and I don't think it is fair to the Project Server 2007
development team to be forced to follow the development path of less complex
products. That's my humble opinion and I'm sticking to it! :)

Dale,

I was looking for info on "My Personal Projects" category and this
helps! Would you be able to share exactly what how this category
interfers with "My Projects" and what the associated issues are? What
should be done to avoid the issues?

I can't document all the problems, as I simply do not have the time, nor the
memory to recollect. I can tell you for sure that if you start having
strange permissions problems, problems where the permissions should
definitely allow you to do something and you still can't do it, then the My
Personaly Projects category is probably the source. If you remove the My
Personal Projects category from the relevant Group, and then you can do what
the permission dictates, then you KNOW the My Personal Projects category was
problem. The category actually controls permissions for the Personal
Activity Plan in the system, so if you remove it, you may lose that
functionality. The truth is: Microsoft needs to fix this bug. Hope this
helps.
