PS2003 Concurrent with PS2007

Hi,

Having used one of the Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2007
migration process options, I now have PS2003 and PS2007 running on the
same server (yes, it is a single server instance, but for test
purposes).

Everything seems to be working fine with PS2007, although we haven't
test that much at this stage. However, we have been getting some
unusual behavior from the PS2003 instance. The PS2003 environment is
pretty much standard with SP2a applied and SP2 on the Project Pro
client side.

To explain, the following the steps are being taken:

1. Open Project Professional 2003 while connected to Project Server
2003.
2. Modify some Tasks in the Project Schedule.
3. From the Menu Bar in Project Professional 2003, select Collaborate
Publish > All Information.
4. Click on the [OK] button if prompted to Save the Project.
5. Close out of Project Professional.
6. Open Project Web Access.
7. Open Project Center (the 'Project' Menu Bar item).
8. Click on the title of the Project that was modified.
9. View the Project Gantt Chart details.

This process displays all information correctly in Project
Professional 2003, but it is not updating the PWA Project Detail
Views. The updates just don't seem to be refreshing in the PWA Views
(even when we use the "Republish Assignments" publish method selecting
the overwrite check box).

We're seeing similar behavior on the Projects that are new and those
that have been in Project Server 2003 before and after the 2007
upgrade effort. On those projects you can update the Project Plan
then Publish them. The top level screen of Project Center shows the
new updates. However, when you drill down intp the detail Views, you
see that no updates happened. The tasks show up, but they're not the
updated versions of the tasks (nor do new tasks you've just added show
up).

In simpler terms, the bottom line is that, on the web interface the
first screen of Project Center (the Executive Summary) is updating
correctly as you make and publish changes from the Project Plan.
However the drill-down screen for any and all projects is not getting
any updates.

This was all working fine before the migration to PS2007. Now working
in the combined environment seems to cause issues with PS2003. We want
to continue testing and cleaning up the Projects in PS2003 before
migrating them to the PS2007 environment (we used the migration option
settings that prevented the moving of Projects). But we would like to
get this corrected before going any further.

Any suggestions or feedback would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Wayne

We are currently using 2003 while testing 2007 (different servers). We may
have had the same issues without noticing. However we did note some other
oddities with interactions between using Project 2003 & Project 2007 on the
same PC. Those seemed to have been cleared up after doing a repair on both
versions (Add/Remove Programs, Change, Repair). It's worth a shot.

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for the feedback. This is very helpful. I might give
that a try.

It's not a big deal, as the whole environment will eventually be on
PS2007, but it good to know that we are not the only ones seeing some
unusual behavior.

Once again, may thanks.

Cheers,
