PS2007: My Tasks View - Cannot Edit Actual or Remaining Duration

Anthony

We are new at implementing MS Project 2007 Server. Within the desktop
application, we are using a simple project update plan (Actual Start,
Actual Duration, Remaining Duration, Actual Finish). I would like to
setup the My Tasks view on the server to allow similar updates. I can
add these fields and they are visible in the view but it does not
allow me to edit the Actual or Remaining Durations. Is there
something I need to change in the configuration to allow these fields
to be "editable" in the My Tasks view? If I use Actual Work and
Remaining Work, those I can change but Work <> Duration. Any
assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Anthony,

I can't tell if there is any way to get duration field to be "editable".
What you can do without any changes is to modify Start and Finish which will
change your duration.

Hi Anthony

On my task page the stuff you can change relates to assignment data,
this may in turn update task level data but not always. Duration and
Remaining Duration are task level fields. Remember you may have
several assignments per task so which resource gets to set these
values?

There is no way to add Actual Duration and Remaining Duration fields to the
My Tasks page and then make them editable. Since you already have your
people moving in the right direction with progress reporting, I would
proposed that you add the following fields to the My Tasks page instead:

Actual Start
Actual Work
Remaining Work
Actual Finish

Then edit the My Tasks web part and set the Work Format setting to Days.
This will come close to what your people were doing previously on the
standalone version of Microsoft Project 2007. Hope this helps.

My thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate the suggestions.
Dale, a special thanks. The fields you indicated are the fields I have
populated. Since we are starting very simply, most of our tasks only
have a single resource. Based on the Microsoft Calculation (D * U =
W), generally updating work should get me close to what I need for
duration. I wanted to confirm that there was no way to update the
durations directly. Thanks again to everyone for their help.
