PS2007 Timesheet

Hi, I am having trouble getting the timesheet to go through two approvals
before setting it as approved. The senario is: Resource submits time, it
goes to time timesheet approver 1. when timesheet approver 1 opens the time
sheet, they can see that the next approver is timesheet approver 2. timesheet
approver 1 approves the timesheet, but instead of it going to timesheet
approver 2, it is marked as approved. timesheet approver 2 never gets the
timesheet.

Could I be missing some sort of timesheet setting?

It all has to do with permissions. Because Approver #1 is only an interim
approver, he/she cannot have the Approve Timesheets permissions, because
this permission is reserved exclusively for the LAST approver in the chain
of approvers. To set up your chain of approvers, you will need to use a
custom Group for the people who are interim approvers in the chain of
approvers, as documented in the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/ChainOfTimesheetApprovers.aspx

In your scenario, Timesheet Approver #1 is what I refer to as a Timesheet
Reviewer in the FAQ. A Timesheet Reviewer is someone who performs interim
Timesheet approvals, and these people DO NOT have the Approve Timesheets
permission. Hope this helps.

Thanks! the FAQ helps a ton, but now I am unable to find the name of the
"Senior Manager A" in the browse box for the timesheet manager in "resource
Manager A" edit user page.

resouce manager A is in these groups: proj managers and timesheet reviewers
(created per FAQ).
senior manager A is in this group: resource manager and executives

Out of curiosity, are you using any Deny permissions in the Executives
group? Beyond this, have you changed the default permissions in the
Resource Managers group? Let me know and I will try to assist.

Beyond my two previous questions, have you changed any of the default
permission in the My Resources category? Remember that Categories control
what users can see. Let me know.

well im not certain, you see i migrated all of our proj2003 data to 2007. I
didnt set up 2003 so im not sure what is default or modified. There are no
deny permissions in the executive group. I took the senior manager out of
the executives group and I still couldnt choose him.

There are only a handfull of users available to choose from when you are
selecting a timesheet manager. Aside from the administrators, there is
nothing in common with the other users (though I probably just haven't
spotted it yet).

Example of nothing in common: One user that can be assigned as a timesheet
manager has team membrs and resource view groups assigned and another has
proj mngr, resource view, and super prog mngr. the super... group was
migrated from 2003 and it grants accept timesheets permission.

there are over 200 resouces with resouce and team members group assigned, so
i am not sure what makes this person special. I reviewed the resource
properties and still did not see where they are being granted permission.

I'm not sure I can troubleshoot this problem from a distance. My FAQ
assumes that the default permissions are in place for both the default
Groups and Categories. If you have changed any of the defaults, then I'm
not sure I can solve the problem. Sorry I cannot be of more help. :(

Yeah, I understand. Thanks. At least I know where to look. When i figure it
out i will post it.

Thanks Dale!

I will be curious to learn the solution. Please let us know. I'm confident
you WILL figure it out! :)

weird, I posted the solution but my post didnt go through.

I did find the problem get ready to laugh. The resource that i was trying
to make into a timesheet approver was inactive. I didnt realize that because
i could still login as him using forms Authen. In addition to that, i had
him in the 2003 Exec group which did not have the same catagories as the
2007. I switched him to 2007. Now that he is active and I am using the 2007
groups, the timesheet that i was trying to test seems to work smoothly.

I still dont know why i have a regular resouce with the ability to be
selected as a timesheet manager. I'm sure its just a checkbox somewhere that
needs to be deselected, but I havnet found it yet.

Well, I didn't laugh, but maybe I should have! :) That is a solution I
would have NEVER guessed. I'm glad things are working for you now.
