The pst backup utility (pfbackup.exe) was installed & initially tested to be
functioning aok. Found out yesterday that it only works sporadically, which
I confirmed this morning. I opened Outlook & forced a backup 5 times. Of
those 5 times it only actually worked once. I checked the Event Logs -
nothing is being written to indicate success or failure and I'm not getting
any error messages on screen.

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Ahh, makes total sense! Thanks for the link to that article! The user DOES
have a PDA as well as virus protection (all my users do) - but since this is
unique to his laptop I wonder if it's the PDA software that's locking Outlook
up... Thanks again!

This means you have an issue with Outlook not closing completely. Therefore
the outlook.exe process continues to run and the PST Backup Addin can't run.

To troubleshoot see;
