PST file access

I am attemping to open an archive PST file using Outlook 2003. When doing so
Outlook states the file has reached maximum size (2 GB) and i should delete
unnecessary items. Unfortunately, Outlook does not open the PST file for me
to delete anything. How can i get it opened to access items to delete?
