pst file becomes unavailable

I receive the following error on a Win 2k machine running
Outlook 2003 with Exchange server 2003.

"The file XXX.pst could not be accessed because another
application has modified it"

There isn't anything else using the .pst file that I
aware of.

Any thoughts?
