PST file - encrypt against unauthorized access by Administrator

K

KG Old Wolf

Hi -

Strange but important question. We have certain PSTs that require access
restricted ONLY to the file owner. We found it is possible for an
Administrator to copy a PST, store it under another name, and then open it
using their own Outlook client.

Let's not address the bad behavior aspects; please help me identify a
foolproof way to ensure continued confidentiality.

Thanks,
Ken

Yes, that works for just about any file and is not specific to Outlook.
Disk encryption, proper permission configuration and auditing are some of
the technologies that you can use. Note that often behavioral issues do not
let themselves be controlled by technical solutions. Hiring trustworthy
administrators (and also other personnel) is the way to go.
