pst file question Outlook 2002

Hi,

If I export the personal folder pst file, Outlook 2002, to a folder on my
slave drive, and then uninstall OL2002, and then reboot,
and then re-install OL2002, and then use the import routine for the exported
pst file, will all
my stuff be back?

The reason for this is my system hangs when I close it, and once I got an
error fm OL2002 about
it so I'm thining it may be causing the problem, but I don't want to
uninstall/reinstall if
I run the risk of loosing all my personal folders, and the info in my
appointment calender, etc.

TIA

You wouldn't lose your mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, .etc. What you
would lose in the export is custom views. FWIW, i usually copy the PST file
when all e-mail enabled (includes fax, pda, .etc) are closed. At the very
least you can run the file through scanpst.exe (inbox repair tool) to
see/correct minor corruption.

By the way, does system hang mean Outlook stays resident or do you really
mean the operating system just hangs?

thanks for info.
Outlook closes and then,
Yes, XP hangs. I've been experimenting this morning and found:
If I run excel and shut down it works.
If I run ie 6.0 and shut down it works.
If I run OL and shut down it works.
If I run them in combination it works.
But, here's the rub, the system is only on for a minute or two during these
tests. If I let it run for a while, the amount of time yet to be
determined,
it hangs during shut down.
It goes through 3 stages during shut down
1: logging off, ok
2: Saving your settings, ok
3. Shutting down, hangs (I've let run a half hour, so it's hung allright)

normally, at stage 3, it shuts down in less than 4 seconds.

So that's where I am. Before I posted I get a clean bill of health
from AdAware, SpyBot, Avg Anitvirus, PC pitstop online real time
scan, deleted all cookies and thep files, got and installed the most
recent drivers for my video card, and defragged the system.

No need to export or import a PST, since it's Outlook's native file format.
Save a copy of your PST to another folder (just in case), uninstall, reboot,
and reinstall. When creating your new profile and adding the "Personal
Folders" service, just point to the original PST.

Thanks for the info. That makes it easier.
As it turns out, I don't have to fool with Outlook afterall.
Just to see what would happen if I turned off the restore point
feature in XP, I turned it off, and guess what? The shut down
problem went away! I'll leave it off for a week or so, and
turn it back on and see what happens.
