I am unable to open the .pst files to view them, what is the secret?

A PST file can only be opened by Outlook. Use File > Open. How have you been
trying to do it?

Please provide more information, are you receving an error? What is it. You may just need to remove the pst and re-add it but really cannot say without more info

I always use outlook, then File>Open then it says "choose a program" and I

You're not trying to open it with Outlook, you're using WIndows Explorer.
Start the Outlook program. Then IN THAT PROGRAM, click File, then Open,
then Outlook Data File.
