PST files - reducing size

T

trapper1950

Outlook 2000
File size 1,930,385kb.

I've ran archives for each qtr of 2006 & the 1st qtr of 2007, yet the size
of the PST file hasn't changed.
Right-clicked PST, selected Properties\Advanced, then clicked 'Compress
contents to save disk space' which didn't change size.
Any suggestions which would reduce the size of the PST would be greatly
appreciated.

That may depend on how much mail was actually archived, with whatever
setting you chose.
You need to do something pretty quick as your pst is of a size where it
might baulk, resulting in the total loss of contents (worst case)
You might also check the size of your archive.pst

archive2005.pst = 462,272kb
archive2006 1qtr.pst = 112,032kb
archive2006 2qtr.pst = 120,576kb
archive2006 3qtr.pst = 144.288kb
archive2006 4qtr.pst = 157.904kb
archive2007 1qtr.pst = 237,648kb
total of archives = 1,234,720 which should have taken the outlook.pst file
down to about 683,913. Funny thing was that of the above files, the only one
to take the outlook.pst file down in size was archive2006 4qtr.pst. The file
didn't decrease in size with the creation of any of the other archives.

Presumably you checked the size of the pst within OL, check it also via
explorer. (its generally a hidden file)
You might also run the repair tool, as previously suggested, scanpst.exe on
the pst, several times (with OL closed)
