I cannot open my pst stored on a network server anymore.
I get a message that the pst is in use by another process
or that a portion of the file is locked by another
process. I have verified with our network administrator
that the file is not in use. I get same message if I try
to copy, rename, move or scan the pst. The last time I
used it I had a problem with Outlook not responding and
had to end task. Any suggestions on how I can get access
to this very important personal folder?

If you can get the admin to reboot the server during a slow period of the
day or after hours, does it work afterwards? Can you copy the file locally?
Do they make full backups of this server nightly?

Note - MS does not support accessing PST files on network shares. It can be
made to work, but it can also cause data corruption/loss, as well as being
slow.

I have a similar problem. even when all the computers have been rebooted,
this still occurs. No copying or moving as the same error message appears.

Anyone got any ideas?
Could it be MS word related (as in Task Manager, Word.exe appears when
opening outlook on the server)

On the server that holds the pst-file check the Computer Management to see
if the file is opened from the network. If not; it's a local process locking
the pst-file.

Word is started with Outlook when you have it configured as the e-mail
editor. Just curious; why are you runing Outlook on a server and have it
connect to a pst-file on another server?
