Pst Missing Found Non Found

Needed to use an unusal subject to reasonable describe this oddity.
Am using xpPro with Outlook 2000.
I am starting on the upgrade to Outlook 2003 ; and the anticipated
conversion of Pst to 2003 format.
The first step is to backup the Pst files to an external hard drive.
I opened Documents and Settings -drilled down to Microsoft/Outlook.
There are the Pst sitting there.
Inbox. Inbox2 Inbox 3 and so forth.
However I wanted to be certain that there were no other instances of
Pst in another directory.
I did a search. Search came up with an old backup Pst on another
folder at root.
I did a specific search of Documents and Settings. The search came up
with nothing.
I did the search by PST ; *. PST ; Inbox.pst, Inbox, Inbox*.*.
Nothing. I did this as local user, and as Admin, the search.
Obviously the real Pst files are sitting there in Documents and
Settings. The file size is accuracte.
I will go ahead and backup these files to an external hard drive. And
rename the current ones in D&S from *.PST to *.Old and begin the 2003
upgrade.
And I do have in File/ View all those aspects unchecked - hidden and
so forth made visible.
Is there an explination that I can find the Pst files on the backup
drive, in root folders, and that I Cannot find those Pst in Documents
and Settings? Thanks for any insight into this issue. Chuck M
