pst not a personal folders file error

I copied an old xp pst file from my last job and am now trying to open it in
2003 which gives me the above error. I've tried simply opening it, importing
it but always give me the same result the scanpst application doesn't
recognise the file either. I know that the format of the pst file has changed
and isn't backwardly compatible, I'm in the process of trying to get hold of
an xp machine to see if it is a file corruption but I've done this before
with no issues (in XP) the file is not read only. Any suggestions

Make a copy of the PST file & run scanpst.exe against it to check for
errors. O2003 should have no problem reading an older PST file....the
problem exists only the other way around if you have an OL2003
Unicode-format PST file and try to open it in an earlier version.

Was Outlook completely closed when you made the copy from your old job? Did
you open the new copy to make sure it was good before leaving?

Unfortunately I didn't check the file was OK (bit of a life lesson there),
I've run the scanpst and it doesn't recognise the file format!

I'll have a go in XP and see if its a file corruption.

Is there any other way of doing this?
