Hi, I think I screwed up and need some help. Had to redo
my wifes laptop and saved her email as a .pst file. Now
when I try to import it, it say's "Properties for this
information must be defined prior to use". HELP, what do I
do?

In your current installation of Windows, with Outlook
closed, rename your current something.pst file to
old_something.pst.

Copy the .pst file you saved to the location of
something.pst. Open Outlook.

On my Win 2000 Pro, with Outlook 2000, my pst file is
located in: c:\documents & settings\user name\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

You'll need to have "show all files" or similar,
in "folder options" enabled.

Make sure that the file is on a read/write location and that the Read Only
file attribute hasn't been selected on the file.

To access your "old" pst-file;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

To set it as the default delivery location;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts...-> button Next-> use the dropdownlist below

This could end up in a profile corruption since a pst-file holds more info
then just mail items. Seeing your pst-file twice in the folderlist is a
common corruption you get when doing this.

In my version of Outlook 2000, file > open > "personal
folders file" .pst , not "outlook data file".

You lost me on the "Tools > E-mail Accounts . . .> button
Next"

Yep, they changed the name and location Outlook since 2002

I don't have an Outlook 2000 at hand here but you should be able to specify
which pst-file is your Default Delivery Location.

current folder mailbox old and renamed my backup to
mailbox and it gave me an error when trying to open
outlook.

Bad advice. This can corrupt the mail profile.

Don't import. First, make sure the PST is not read-only. Next, create a
new mail profile that points to this PST as the "Personal Folders" file.
Now open Outlook. You should see her old items.
