Pub 2002 Drawing Canvas?

My Pub 2002 help says that I can use the tools on the Object toolbar to add objects to the drawing canvas, make any changes I want on the drawing canvas, then drag the object off the drawing canvas and onto my page. When I click on "Drawing Canvas" in help it says: Help could not locate this inline definition
My question: Where is this drawing canvas, and how do I get it? I don't have "the tools" on my object toolbar, do I? What would "the tools" look like?

Judy,
I went through the same quest when I began learning Pub 2002. the 'canvas'
is the dark area around your page which is where you can park things until
you want to drag them into you page.

'canvas' is the dark area around your page which is where you can
park things until you want to drag them into you page.

No it isn't.
That is the scratch area.

A drawing canvas is a device used in Word that is not available in
Publisher, and is a typo in the help file. The help file should not mention
Drawing Canvases, as they do not exist in Publisher.

Sigh. Of course it doesn't exist.
It seems to me that upgrades should be EASIER to use, not harder.
Please, Microsoft, bring back the '97 calendar and the "Pick up formatting/Apply formatting" options from 2000!

Have you seen the Format Painter? It accomplishes some of this...
