Pub2003 resizes 11x17 to 8.6x11

Using an Epson 1280: I reinstalled the latest driver, reinstalled Pub2003, set
preferences in driver to 11x17, but when printing starts, Pub changes the
size to 8.5x11. EVERYTHING is set to 11x17, but I see when printing
starts the status monitor says 8.5x11, and the document is shrunk down to
8.5x11 when it prints on the paper.
I know this is not an Epson problem because I can convert the PUB file to
PDF and it prints just fine at 11x17.
I see others have had this same problem: e.g. the thread "how to print 11 x
17"
dated Nov. 10, 2003 --which never seemed to be resolved.
I've given up trying to print my document with Publisher on 11x17 size
paper. But I would like to know WHY it doesn't work, if anybody can provide
any reasons.
I get the same results on two different systems, both with:
WindXP SP2
Office 2003 latest SP
Pub 2003

Dale, I cannot find a solution for you. As you read in the November message,
that poster had success in Office 2002 but not 2003. I have looked through the
Epson support documents, they are no help. (UK equivalent printer is 1290) I'd
be tempted to download the UK driver.
I reckon your only solution would be to go the PDF route. Your printer driver is
the culprit, not Publisher. My HP can print tabloid with no issues.
