Public Contacts Folder and Categories

If I create a category on my computer for a contacts Public Folder, does
that then get distributed to other users of the folder and available to
them? What's the best way to create a 'master' category for all users of a
public folder. Sorry, not up to speed on Exchange Server as much as I would
like.
