Is there a way users can receive notifications(pop-
up/sound-clip)when a new message arrives in a Public
Folder? I have found ways to send e-mails to a
distribution list, but that defeats the purpose of a
Public Folder.

I'm not aware of any way to do that easily, though you might check http://www.slipstick.com
's Utilities page to see if there's an add-in I don't know about.
You could use the Folder Assistant (right-click the Public Folder, go
to Properties, Administration) to create a rule that forwards any received
messages to the users you want notified. That's not a very elegant solution,
though.
