Publish does not delete originals of moved files

When publishing from my local file system copy of a web
(local), which is in a 'My Web Sites' folder on an XP
machine, to the remote copy of the same web, hosted on a
Linux server with FP extensions, I find that, after moving
files around on the local copy and after publishing, the
moved files do show up where they should be in both webs,
and links are updated OK, BUT the original copies still
remain in the in the remote web, in their original
locations.

Seems to me that sometimes in the past, FP2003 has told me
that those extra files (on the remote site) are not in the
local web, and asked if I wanted them gone. Most of the
time, though I am finding that this does not happen.

I have the same problem publishing the opposite direction,
too, and I am getting a build-up of files I have to hunt
down, check out, and delete manually in various copies of
the web. Why is FP not deleting the originals after moving?
Is something I am not doing?

Try a Publish All one way to get the sites in sync

Not sure exactly what that means, since there are a number
of ways to publish, but I have not seen an option with that
exact label. I do see "Publish all changed pages" with some
options below, and that is what I was using. I think I've
tried all the various options, as well as the various
options in the tabs.

As further clarification , often I publish just one file and
I don't expect action that to remove such files, HOWEVER,
the problem I have ocurs even when I go to file | publish
site, and choose local to remote. Seems no matter which
options I choose in the Publishing tab (found inside the
remote site properties tab). The files are not removed.

I do recall having had FP2003 ask about removing the files
in some situations (I have many sites and publish between
them sometimes). I just can't figure why this only happens
once in a while. Is it because the publish is between a
server with FP extensions and a file system?

Publish All pages , either from Local to Remote or from Remote to Local.
This should get the meta data back into synch. Then a Publish Changed Pages
*should* remove the unmatched files.

An easier way to manually find the unmatched files is to go to remote Site
view. Change the View dropdown to Files in Conflict

The windows will show those files in conflict, and also those unmatched on
the receiving end of a publish. Change the publish direction to see those
unmatched on the other web.

Thanks. Any idea why FP does not offer to clean up the
files? Has it anything to do, possibly, with the fact that
I have no web server running on my local file system? Or
should FP be offering to clean up? I have never been able
to figure out exactly what FP is doing during a publish, and
I have maintained more than a few sites with FP and used FP
ever since MS first acquired it.
