First posting was "lost" My sincere apologies

FP 2000 error message May 24, 2004

MY relevant computer equipment includes the following

Windows 2000 Pro O/S

Front Page 2000

80GB HD

1 Gb memory

EZ Trust Anti virus

Linksys Firewall

URL of my website = http://latinmass.bravepages.com

I have had FP 2000 for years without an error messages of any consequence. .

Today May 24 2004 : While trying to "Publish" web pages [ from within FP
2000] which I have added or edited ; the following interruption occurs

"An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors : if
authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details."

This error message followed my performing the following exercise:

1] Installed a new 80 GB Hard drive

2] Re- installed Windows 2000 Pro

3] RE-installed FrontPage 2000

4] Opened FP 2000 and from a backup tape, I retrieved my
"latinmass.bravepages.com web from a local location.. So far so good.

5] I cannot "Publish" my web pages from within FP2000 to another local
folder on my local disk as I used to do.

6] I cannot "Publish" my web pages from within FP2000 to my remote web site
[ namely www.latinmass.bravepages.com ] as I used to do without the error
message.

7] However; I can access my remote web site at www.latinmass.bravepages.com
or http://latinmass.bravepages.com successfully.

I need to "Publish" all changed pages following "editing" the same.

I have searched Microsoft Windows knowledge base articles [ e.g. 260159 ]and
similar knowledge base articles . Their instructive solutions are very
detailed but do not help me .

Am I missing something?

Please help . URGENT.

Mr. Tom Pepper: An example of the execution which brings down the error
message , is the following::

1] In FP 2000 [ Open Web] [Go To [Web Folders] and select my web , namely
, [latinmass.bravepages.com] [Open]
2] Name and Password is requested. Name = latinmass.bravepages.com the
Password = **********
3] In Microsoft Front Page the remote web displays as an Internet
location ,namely, [

]

4] Select [File] [Publish]
5] Where to publish ? is requested. I created and selected a
temporary folder, namely, [C:....\Gordon 3\My documents\wincopy latinmass ]
6] A progress box indicates that downloading from the remote web site is
taking place, successfully.
7] At 75% completion , Updating progress box displays , then the progress
stops and is interrupted by "The Error Message."
8] When I open the [C:....\Gordon 3\My documents\wincopy latinmass ]
into FP 2000 , all has been published except the "Navigation Structure"

Comment : perhaps ,once we correct the source of the error message, the
"Publishing " will proceed to 100%

Thank you . for your kind efforts and trusting that what has been
submittedwill clarify some issues for you to act upon.

Tried the "publish " command again ; from the remote web site to my local
web site with no spaces in the web name [ wincopy33latinmass ] as suggested.

COMMENT :

After 3 or so minutes into the download progression of files and folders ,
the procedure stopped with the following message:

"The server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service
Provider or your Web server Administrator to make sure that the FrontPage
Server Extensions are installed. "

\bin\fpsradm.exe and executed the file

2] In the "DOS interface ; and from a long list of options ; I selected
[check and fix] .successfully. I trust that this means that FP extensions
are already installed locally. If there is another means , please advise.

3] RE tried the "Publish" procedure ; remote to local and received the

I feel that all of you well intentioned "advisors" are leading me into an
ever ending circle. I have submitted an extremely detailed description of my
problem.

IN CONCLUSION: I have no problem connecting with my remote web site , as
described earlier. I have no problem executing a downloading of my remote
web site to my local computer folder. The progress box indicates the
downloading of all my .html files; overlays; themes; images ;multimedia is
successful . Then the "Processing Web Updates " begins and after several
minutes , the processing stops and "The Error Message" appears. The process
is 75 % complete , what is lacking , is the downloading of the Navigational
Structure. PLEASE FOCUS ON THIS . Why is the Nav. Structure omitted. at the
75 % stage of processing.????? .

Response to Stephan B.Rusynko's May 30, 2004 Front page News Group

1] I followed your instructions to the letter . I was not sure of a
particular context which read: "NOTE: This nav change .................; so
after the 1st change ,do it again to get it back to what you want and rerun
the "Recalculate Hyperlinks" . I took this to mean to OPEN my LOCAL web and
rerun "Recalculate" locally ; and that is what I did. [ having previously
ran Recalculate Hyperlinks on my Remote site from within FP , previously. ]

2] I Opened the Remote web site in FP; executed "Publish Command". I
selected when requested, the middle option of "Replace the Navigation of the
Destination Web. and a progress box displayed , followed shortly thereafter
by the error message ""An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files.
Authors : if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster
for this server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for
more details." SORRY......

3] I made changes tothree of my web pages locally [ e.g.. added text and a
jpg image ] and "Published" "Changed Pages Only" to my Remote web site . For
the first time this "Publish" procedure was a success. . I am grateful that
I can now "Publish " from my Local web to the Remote web site; but not vice
versa .

4] I created a new page locally within FP 2K [e.g. Test page.htm] and added
it to the navigation structure and Published it to my remote web site .
Error message " Server error , cannot close file "test page.htm.
Insufficient disk space." My allotted disk space to my remote web site [
which is a paid account with Bravenet ] provides me with 250 Mb of space .
So I do not understand this error message.

5] Lastly ;I applied your suggestions for a cleanup to my local web site and
using the "Publish command" within FP 2K; I attempted to backup my local Web
to another separate and temporary folder location on my C -local disk.

"An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors : if
authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details."

June 3, 2004 RE: www.latinmass.bravepages.com
Sorry for the delay Mr Rusynk . I executed my Web Server technician 's
instructions to the letter as follows:

1]In the Browser , type; without the www or http; the following: "
latinmass.bravepages.com\latinmass.exe" [ my 24.Mb remote web]
2] download and "Save" to my "downloads" directory.
3] Open the [latinmass.exe ] folder which is in the "Downloads" directory
4] Dbl click [ latinmass.exe]
5] The [Win RAR self extracting Archive] menu displays.
6] The [Destination Folder ]is requested. . Choose the following
recently created empty folder locally e.g. [ C:\latinmass] [OK]
7] Press the [Install] button
8] The [Installation Progress] box displays showing ALL the files of my
Remote Web being extracted to my chosen destination ; namely [C:\latinmass]
9] Open FP 2000 and choose [File] [Open Web] [C:\latinmass ]
10] Do you want to add FP info to C:\latinmass [Yes]
11] Click on the Subfolder [Tempa] of [C:\latinmass\tempa ] to view ALL
the files\folders in FP 2000
12] Open [ index.htm]
13] ALL files and folders are present [ Excellent] e.i [htm'
s][images][multimedia][Nav structure] Banner links][left border panel
button] etc.
14][File] [Publish] [ include sub folders] to an empty temp folder e.g
wincopy22
15] FP 2000 needs to convert this folder to a new web [Yes]
16] A progress box displays : after 75 % of the files are transfered, the
transfer of files halts . "Processing web updates" message displays .Then
the same error message displays, namely :
"An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors : if
authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details."

17] However, the only thing that is missing is [ Navigational Structure]
.. All else is excellent. My Web Server support technician ,Cody, has
performed the same steps above on his computer , successfully, without the
error message

18] Advised to remove and reinstall FP 2000 and repeat the above steps
from the beginning. Completed the re installation of FP 2000 and repeated
the above 13 steps with the same error message . The only thing missing
again is the Navigational Structure. .

Thank you for your patience and any further help , frustrated,

Gordon J. Fimio D.D.S.

|
|
|
|
| Insufficient disk space." My allotted disk space to my remote web site [
| which is a paid account with Bravenet ] provides me with 250 Mb of space ..
|
|

FP can not cope w/ the latinmass.exe file in your rootweb and will not "transfer" structure info from a zipped copy if your server
based web to the disc based web using "copies" of the meta files from the server

Start w/ some prep on your local PC
- In Windows Explorer on your PC find the folder C:\latinmass and delete All the content in it, but leave the folder

Then In FP
- File Open Web/Site and enter your URL as http://www.latinmass.bravepages.com/ and log in
- Find and delete the 24MB file latinmass.exe in your root folder
(latinmass.exe is a zipped executable containing your web, delete it from your root web)
(if there are any other .exe files in your web delete them too)
- Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
- Then use File Publish Web/Site and browse to the folder on your PC named: C:\latinmass and respond yes to the prompts asking if
you want to convert the folder to a web

You will end up w/ a new web w/ nav structure at C:\latinmass which you can open in FP using
File Open Web/Site and entering C:\latinmass (or just browsing to the folder C:\latinmass)

|
WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
| details."
|
| 17] However, the only thing that is missing is [ Navigational Structure]
|
|
|

I followed your very latest instructions [ 5 enumerated steps] .and after
some very few minutes of "Publishing" progress, a new and novel interuption
began with this error message:

"Server error: the user 'nobody' is not authorized to excute the 'set
DocsMeta info' method. Publishing was terminated.

Please explain., I appreciate your efforts on my behalf

(latinmass.exe is a zipped executable containing your web, delete it from your root web)
(if there are any other .exe files in your web delete them too)
- Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
- Then use File Publish Web/Site and browse to the folder on your PC
named: C:\latinmass and respond yes to the prompts asking if
you want to convert the folder to a web

You will end up w/ a new web w/ nav structure at C:\latinmass which you can open in FP using
File Open Web/Site and entering C:\latinmass (or just browsing to the folder C:\latinmass)
