You must actually have a web created and opened, not just a page.

A "web" in Frontpage terms is a "web site" - a collection of web pages that make
up that particular site.

That is how Frontpage manages its websites, how it knows where all links are
leading (and how it reports on various things like broken hyperlinks and how it
can recalculate links), and how its navigation bars and structure (the "flow
chart/navigation") view works.

Hi to all in this thread, in particular to fellow Aussie
Andrew. I used to be a iinet member until I switched to
TransACT (in Canberra)

I have a 1GByte Website (http://tandcl.homemail.com.au/)
supplied by TransACT.

I have a similar question.

To date, I have coded HTML with a bit of help from PC
magazines and the W3C learning site
(http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp), and I have used
freeware FTP programs to upload it. At the moment, I am
using SMARTFTP and it is quite good.

However, I would like to be able to use FrontPage as a
coding aid (well, it does it all doesn't it?) and then
upload from there.

When I try to "Open Web..", I get quite confused. If I
type in my Host ftp address (http://ftp.homemail.com.au/)
or my website address (http://ftp.homemail.com.au/) I am
told it is not accessible - I may need a password.

This is quite true - I supplied a password to SMARTFTP.
How do I do the same to FrontPage? The FrontPage help
gets quite techical, talking about subwebs and RootWebs
and I get lost.

Can anyone gently lead me through this maze, please

It would be better to start your own thread.

You cannot open a server based website using an FTP address. The site must
be on a server with FrontPage extensions installed, and opened using an
address in the form http://example.com
