Published to hard drive, but not in sync

V

Vince

I wanted to be able to edit my web from my laptop while I was away, so I
opened it on the server and published to a folder on my laptop. Then I opened
the web in that folder, and immediately went to the Publish dialog. For some
reason, FrontPage2002 wanted to publish every file to the server, even though
it was set to publish changed files only by comparing dates. And the dates
were identical. (When I tell it to publish by comparing the files, it has a
question mark next to all the files).

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks

Not familiar with the term "publish down", but in order to get the website
files onto the laptop I had FP go to the site on the web and opened it, then
published it to a folder on the laptop's hard drive.

I've just repeated the whole process to make sure I did it right, but it is
still doing the same thing.
I told FP to open the web on the server, told FP to publish All Files to a
location on my hard drive, then closed FP. Then I immediately opened the
newly published down copy that is on the hard drive, told FP to publish only
changed files by comparing dates, and for some reason it wants to publish all
of them to the server (has a check mark next to every file), even though it
shows the same date and time when it compares the hard drive copy to the
server copy.

Are you in the same time zone as the server hosting your site?

WOW! (adrenalin rush!)
is that the issue? If so, is there a work-around?
I am Mountain time, they are Pacific.

so compare would be better than the timestamp or would it be same issue?

Compare would be better then using time.

Don't use time to compare.

When I use Compare, it puts a ? next to all the files, and in the Status
column it says "Conflict".

I don't have access to FP2002 or FP2003 at the moment if there are other options, you might want to
try those.

Since I use FP2000, I never have to deal with these issues when publishing.

By the way, I suspect the Conflict is because there is a different author
shown - the left hand column shows the computer name as the author.

I dont think the author matters.

Does anyone know what it means when the Publish dialog, when set to Compare,
shows the ? next to the file name, and says "Conflict" in the Status column?
Maybe this will give a clue as to what is going on here.
Thanks
