publisher 03 hyperlink problem

I set up a hyperlink to connect to a file on my hardrive. When I put my
publication in 'view web page' mode it doesn't connect. Other hyperlinks to
pages and/or web sites work fine. The file opens fine when I hyperlink to it
in Word.

Confused.

Hyperlinks to pages in your publication are "internal" links.
Hyperlinks to web sites are "external" links.
Hyperlinking to a file outside the publication is "external".
