publisher 2000 cannot load old file format

I was given a Publisher file which I cannot load into
Publisher 2000- I get the message "Publisher cannot open
files from a different version." If I view the file
in "binary" mode, I see the string "Publisher 3.0" which
apparently dates it as being from the Office 95 era.

A search of the Knowledge Base suggests this is a common
problem with many (most?) versions of Publisher and the
only way around it is to load the file into the version of
Publisher that was used to create it. Of course, I don't
have Publisher 3.0.

Are there any applications that would allow me to view my
file or ideally, save it in a newer format?

Thanks for your time and efforts!

There's a flaw in your analysis. I have files that I created and edited
solely n Pub 2003 and they all have the same string of text. It may be
better to assume the file was created with 2002 or 2003.

If you cannot ask the person who created the file to save it in a format you
can read, you are welcome to send it on to me. I can send it back to you as
a .pdf. Email me for an address to send it to - provided it's not terribly
big.

Hi Mike,

Did you get any satisfaction? I have the same problem with a file written in
Publisher 3.0 and e-mailed from a collegue. Pub 2000 gives me the same
message.

If your colleague can't send it in a different format, i.e. PDF, send it to me and I
will convert it to Publisher 2000 for you.
