Publisher 2007 - New Version, Old Look

Are you considering updating the Publisher 2007 interface to match the new
interface in your other Office programs? I truly feel that Publisher belongs
very securely with the "standard suite" of Word, Excel, Power Point, and
Outlook. Why not extend the interface to this program, too?

Because the Publisher team simply didn't have the time (or manpower,
depending which way you look at it) to do so. It was either do that, or
introduce all the other brilliant features that are in the beta.

Any word as to when we can expect an interface upgrade for Publisher, then?
Should I expect to wait until the next version of Office altogether? Or with
a service pack update, perhaps? Just curious if there's any word on this.

It would be impossible to implement in a service pack. A service pack is for
bug fixes and minor functionality changes, not entire UI redesigns.

I have no idea whether it will be implemented in the next version of
Publisher.

Jensen Harris said in his blog that he expected they would do the new
interface in Publisher but didn't have the time to do it this round.... so
expect it in the next version?

Perhaps, but I honestly have no information either way. Office 2007 hasn't
even been released yet; Office14 is a long way away.

I can tell you that at Summit last year, the good folks that develop
Publisher said that Pub 2007 wouldn't have the new interface. Nothing at all
was said about the version after that.

Publisher 2007 has many new features, but it really does need even a slight
reworking of the interface. Outlook 2007 still uses toobars in parts of it,
and it has still managed to keep up with the rest of the Office Suite.
Publisher 2007 doesn't even use ClearType!!! Sure, there have been some
interface changes, but they aren't incredibly dramatic.

Well, now that they have all the "brilliant features" in the beta (and
obviously prepared for the final release) maybe they can spend the rest of
their time reworking the interface.

Erm... the whole point of having a beta is to test the product and
remove bugs. Not to continue adding new features. Otherwise when the
product was released, there would still be untested code full of bugs.
Once the Publisher team were finished adding the new features, the beta
was beginning, so they became busy fixing bugs found by beta testers and
performing internal testing.

Well.....here we are in January, 2008 and I am having a few problems with
Publisher 2007 and the directions given to correct the problem:
I want to change the default working folder (the folder that opens when
you hit SAVE). I clicked on "Publisher Help" and it told me to click on the
"MICROSOFT BUTTON" (like in Word) only there is no Microsoft Button in
Publisher 2007 and no ability to change the default working folder on the
SAVE tab of the OPTIONS on the toolbar. How do I get this done and where is
this Microsoft Button that I can't seem to find?

Thank you

This was mysteriously (and probably accidentally) removed in Publisher 2007.

This is a mistake in the help files. There is no Office button in Publisher.
