Publisher 97 clipart problems

J

John Dethoff

I have Pub 97 running on several machines in my home. On some it works, on
others it has flaws related to clip art.

I have no problem with it on Win 98SE with lots of other loaded programs
(including Office 2000).

Pub 97 runs OK on one of my machines with XP (no office 2000 installed).

But, on two machines, one with XP, the other with ME (both with office
2000), I have the same problem: When running the wizzards, it cannot find
the required clipart. Also, if I search in Clip Gallery 5.0, the clipart
from publisher does not appear.

I have tried uninstall/ reinstall of publisher 97 several times without any
luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The Clip Gallery has its own help files with troubleshooting steps. It maybe as
simple as re-registering your Gallery.
On the Start menu, point to Find, and click Files or Folders.
In the Named box, type artgalry.exe and click Find Now.
Double-click the Artgalry.exe icon.
Click OK when you receive the following message: Clip Gallery is now configured to
run on your computer
If no clips are displayed try this fix:
CG5: No Categories Displayed When You Start Clip Gallery

Thanks for your suggestions,

I did that and nothing has changed. Actually, Clip gallery seems to
work OK, in that categories exist, and can be used properly, BUT these
categories only reference the clipart in C:/program files/common
files/microsoft shared/clipart and not the much more complete set
which I installed to my HD with Publisher 97.

One option I tried was to manually import these into clip gallery, but
then one seems to loose the categories and descriptions unless they
are input manually, which is too onerous a task for some 5000 files.
I did find this refernce on how to import legacy clipart from
publisher 98. I followed the instructions, but it did not change
anything.

I had actually tried that as well, but it made no difference. I would
guess that this is needed only if there is an inherent problem with
clip gallery.

So, it seems my problems are two fold:

1. Is there a way to import my Pub 97 clipart files into clip gallery
5.0 *and* reatain the categories or descriptions so they can be
indexed and searched (short of manually entering each file)

2. I still have the problems where running the publisher wizzard often
(but not always) can not find the required clipart.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks
