umm, no, you can keep your old PC, mines only 3 days old, so no deal
there
!

i was running the same version on the last pc, as it came from the same
office 2000 CD that i bought.

I may have to buy a new version as i need it for work and i also work
half
the time from home, if i do get another version what version do you
recommend
as you obviously know your stuff (probably 2003)

M

:

Sure! My PC is a 6½ yr old P3-550. I'm sure I could make do with
yours.

Did you double check the version on the old computer? Could you have
obtained an upgrade on Office somewhere along the line?

Can we swap PC's please,

I have it on my Office 2000 CD that i bought ages ago, i just
entered
the
CD
and downloaded it as usual, as i did on my old PC, all the other
different
files that i have on my stick are all working ok ie Word, Excel etc

:(

:

I was able to open the file with Pub 2003 without a problem. Then I
remembered you said you used Pub 2000. I tried opening it with Pub
2000.
Guess what - couldn't open it. Tried with Pub 2002 - opened just
fine.

Okay............if you have Publisher 2000, who created the file
for
you?

ok i'll send you an email asap, Read Only and Hidden were both
clear.

After the files are copied onto your new computer, open My

Select Properties. Look at the bottom of that dialog box and if
Read-Only

Hi JoAnn thx for getting back please be patient with me as im
not
very
tech
minded on PC's but not a total numpty,

from the start, i have a new PC and from my old PC i was using
Publisher
2000, i tranfered all my files over to my memory stick, then
from
my
CD
i
downloaded office 2000 which has the same Publisher that i was
using
on
my
old PC, everything else works on my new PC ie Excel, windows
etc
but
not
Publisher.

I have checked all the files on the stick and all of them have
a
tick
by
Archieve, i have also disabled AV and transfered all my have
over
to
my
hard
drive and to no avail

dont mind emailing you a file at all, what is your address
please..

:

Oh, just never heard of the terminology.

I need to recap. You got a new computer. Both old and new
computer
have
Publisher. You copied Pub files from old computer to storage
device,
you
copied those files back onto the new computer. They won't
open.
You
tried
disabling AV. Still no success.

A few questions:
1. Which version of Publisher is on the old computer?

2. Which version of Publisher is on the new computer?
(Please
don't
say
Version 6 - I deal with things like Pub 98, Pub 2000, etc.
Sorry)

3. Have you checked the files on the new computer (within
Windows
Explorer)
and made sure they are not read-only?

4. Is there any chance you can email me one of the
questionable
files?

5. I have to ask this question - Any chance you are getting
Home
Publishing
and Publisher mixed up? It happens every now and then and
sometimes
you
need
to eliminate that fact.

disabling AV. Still no success.

A few questions:
1. Which version of Publisher is on the old computer?

2. Which version of Publisher is on the new computer?
(Please
don't
say
Version 6 - I deal with things like Pub 98, Pub 2000,
etc.
Sorry)

3. Have you checked the files on the new computer

Send them to me. I'll save them as a Pub 2000 file. Please understand
they
may lose some formatting and the fonts may change. Other than that, you
should be able to go in and edit them again.

BTW - did you make sure you have all of the updates/patches applied to
the
new system?

How many Pub files do you have that you can't open?

ok, thanks for all your help and advise

:

You can't download it. (That link is an add-in for WordArt within
Publisher.) You have to purchase it.

JoAnne, im looking at the Microsoft Download Centre website in
order
to
download Publisher 2003 would you recommend that i should do this
please

Link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1B-A37D-4586-A1A7-54BBEA375AE2&displaylang=en

PbWrdArt.exe

:

DARN! Here I thought I was getting a new computer! ;-)

2003 because it's currently the latest version available. 2002
is
okay
but
since it's already one version back, and not sold new any
longer, I
can't
see starting out behind right from the get-go.

umm, no, you can keep your old PC, mines only 3 days old, so
no
deal
there
!

i was running the same version on the last pc, as it came from
the
same
office 2000 CD that i bought.

I may have to buy a new version as i need it for work and i
also
work
half
the time from home, if i do get another version what version
do
you
recommend
as you obviously know your stuff (probably 2003)

M

:

Sure! My PC is a 6½ yr old P3-550. I'm sure I could make do
with
yours.

Did you double check the version on the old computer? Could
you
have
obtained an upgrade on Office somewhere along the line?

Can we swap PC's please,

I have it on my Office 2000 CD that i bought ages ago, i
just
entered
the
CD
and downloaded it as usual, as i did on my old PC, all the
other
different
files that i have on my stick are all working ok ie Word,
Excel
etc

:(

:

I was able to open the file with Pub 2003 without a
problem.
Then I
remembered you said you used Pub 2000. I tried opening it
with
Pub
2000.
Guess what - couldn't open it. Tried with Pub 2002 -
opened
just
fine.

Okay............if you have Publisher 2000, who created
the
file
for
you?
:)

ok i'll send you an email asap, Read Only and Hidden
were
both
clear.

Numpty is the word of the day :)

:

A numpty? Never heard that one before.

After the files are copied onto your new computer, open
My
Computer
and
located those files - but don't open them. Right click
on
the
file
name.
Select Properties. Look at the bottom of that dialog
box
and
if
Read-Only
is
checked, clear it. Then try opening the file.

If that doesn't work, send a file to jl dot paules at
gmail
dot
com.
(It's
spelled out so I don't get blasted with spam.)

Hi JoAnn thx for getting back please be patient with
me
as
im
not
very
tech
minded on PC's but not a total numpty,

from the start, i have a new PC and from my old PC i
was
using
Publisher
2000, i tranfered all my files over to my memory
stick,
then
from
my
CD
i
downloaded office 2000 which has the same Publisher
that
i
was
using
on
my
old PC, everything else works on my new PC ie Excel,
windows
etc
but
not
Publisher.

I have checked all the files on the stick and all of
them
have
a
tick
by
Archieve, i have also disabled AV and transfered all
my
have
over
to
my
hard
drive and to no avail

dont mind emailing you a file at all, what is your
address
please..

:

Oh, just never heard of the terminology.

I need to recap. You got a new computer. Both old
and
new
computer
have
Publisher. You copied Pub files from old computer to
storage
device,
you
copied those files back onto the new computer. They
won't
open.
You
tried
disabling AV. Still no success.

A few questions:
1. Which version of Publisher is on the old
computer?

2. Which version of Publisher is on the new
computer?
(Please
don't
say
Version 6 - I deal with things like Pub 98, Pub
2000,
etc.
Sorry)

3. Have you checked the files on the new computer
