Publisher-Inserting a file

M

MOE

I am using MS Windows XP Home and MS Office 2003-Pro
Publisher 2003.
After having a crash where I had to use the switch in back
to shut down, I have been unable to insert any files into
a publisher page.
I keep getting a notice that "MicroSoft has encounted a
problem and must close. Send report, which I have done.
This hasn't corrected the proble and I need to be able to
insert some files from scanning and change their color to
black and reduce the brightness to use as a watermark.
Can someone please tell me how to correct this problem?
Thanks

Moe, how are you trying to insert your files? Are you trying to use the
Insert from Scanner feature? If so, avoid doing so. This is likely an issue
with your Scanner driver. Scan your image into your scanning software, save
the image in a compatible format with Publisher (such as png, jpg, gif), and
use the Insert Picture from File menu and browse to your saved scanned
images. NEVER use Publisher to scan in your images.

Thanks Mary
The message that I mget reads from the top:
Microsoft Office Publisher
Microsoft Office Publisher has encoounted a problem and
needs to close. We are ssorry for the inconvenience.
If you are in the mmiddle of something, the information
you were working on might lost
{Checked BOx} Restart Publisher
Please tell Microsoftabout the problem.
We have created an error report thet you can send to help
us improve Microsoft Office Publlisher.

I have replied to this message as directed.
And to Brian;
Thanks
What I have done is:
I copied a color logo in black with my Lexmark X83
scanner/copier/printer, then scanned the black copy in
black to a file and "saved as". I then attempted to insert
the file into a page publisher. When I tried to get the
folder that the file was in, it gave me the error message
and would not do anything but close the Publisher. In
trying to work around it, I tried "drag and drop" to no
avail. I have also tried to go to "insert", and scan from
picture as well as scan from "object"-- no luck.
Thanks for your answer.

Moe, Might try updating your graphics driver. Try to do this operation in safe mode,
if it works then it probably is a driver issue.

Brian,Thanks for the advice. I have been trying to work
around the problem and was able to complete my newsletter
for printing.
I would still like to find out why I can' insert a file
from the insert menu. I was able to get the files inserted
by drag & drop.
This problem also exists in Serif PagePlus. The logs show
that there may be problems with the .dll's as well as
some .exe's.
My Lexmark X83 does not like to talk to Windows XP Home
even though I have downloaded new drivers and installed
them.
I don't know about my HP 1210 All in one.
What do you think may be the answer?

Moe,

Can't say about Pub but if PP will not import them, they I would venture
a guess they are corrupt. What version of PP are youusing?

Mary;
I'm sorry that I have not tried your suggestionas I have
been busy trying to get the newsletter ready to publish
and trying other ways to work around the problem. I was
able to insert my graphics by click and drag enough to
finish the work.
Now that I have more time, I will go back and see what I
can document. I have made some copies of the desktop with
the error messages, but need to be more specific with what
I have done to get there.
Will post more info later.
Thanks for you input.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I am using PagePlus 8 as well as Draw Plus6 and Photo Plus
8 as well as Pub 2003.
I feel the Page Plus may be corrupted and plan to re-
install it. Now that I have the newsletter going to the
printer, I can check out the programs and see which ones
are giving me trouble.
I will post more later as I find some answers as which
ones are troublesome.

Yes Mary, I had completely uninstalled Lexmark about 3
times. And, yes I was aware of the driver update and had
downloaded it. I completely disconnected the Lexmark and
am using my HP. Lexmark wasn't the problem but it may have
caused it.
I will update the forum after I try to document the
problem with the other applications.
