Publisher product key missing

I originally purchased the XP Office Pro package w/ Publisher that was
already installed. I recently had to re-install my OS and Office Pro pkg. For
some reason the Publisher CD does not ahve a product key with it. How (Who?)
do I contact re: verifying that it is an original and get it back on my
system?

I stand to be corrected on this...but I
think I read somewhere the the key
for an OEM version may be on a sticker
somewhere on the computer case.

Otherwise...for OEM software, you'll
have to deal with your computer mfg.

Generally it's stuck to one of the CD envelopes. The sticker on the tower is
for Windows.

The product key for Office Pro should be valid for Publisher too.

Mary-

You are correct, but I'm having this exact same problem. I'm installing MS
Office XP Pro w/Publisher for the first time. I just today removed the
shrink wrap from my original install CDs. The installer gladly accepts the
Product key for the MS Office install, but rejects that exact same key for
the Publisher install. I checked some of the FAQs you included, and there
was no previous install of any Office components that might be causing the
problem. But I went ahead and removed and re-installed Office anyhow, but
no help.

Has anyone figured out the problem? Thanks!

Kupe

-- I have a similar problem.
I have used Publisher 1999 for years and now want to install it on a new
computer but do not have the key. On the old computer the page with it
flashed up too quickly to be copied. How can I get it? I have no desire to
buy a new version.
Secondly on properties I clicked 'hide', in curiosity. Now the programme
seems to have disappeared from the list of installed programs. I can still
access it through opening an existing file and calling up New. Not very
satisfactory.
Any help appreciated.

The product key is not on the splash screen. IIRC, you can use all 1s on the
older versions (BTW, it's not Pub 99). I just don't know how many 1s you
need to enter.

Look at the Help, About Publisher 97 or 98. The product number is
xxxxx-000-0000000-xxxxx where the zeros are the actual number.

What version Windows are you using? Look at Folder Options in the control panel,
View tab, check *Show hidden files and folders*

JoAnn, you are correct. For Publisher 98 it is 11111-XXX-1111111-11111
(5-3-7-5) but the XXX needs to be replaced with 111 if retail or OEM if the
version is an OEM as written on the disk "to be installed on a new PC".....
I have an OEM version. There were a lot of those default codes for the
earlier versions of Publisher and also Office. One was all 7s where another
was all 5s but now I can't remember which version was what.

Thank you. I was happily computerless at home when those versions were the
latest and greatest. <sigh - sometimes I miss those days>
