Publisher stores printer settings in pub. Why? Can this be changed

I have a user in our office who has asked me multiple times why Publisher
stores the printer on which the publication was last printed in the
publication. She also wants to know how this can be changed. I have
explained that, after a long hard look, I have found no way to modify this
behavior. She continues to ask the question periodically.

Can someone point me to an explanation or some other info on the Microsoft
site related to this? I need something authoritative. I have been unable to
find such info myself.

Thanks in advance,

It is a common sense based arrangement. IF Publisher loaded a users
default printer like Word does, can you imagine how badly that would
mess up the Layout?

Publisher stores all printer information with every publication. It is helpful
as Publisher is a desktop publishing application. Later versions of Publisher
(2003 & 07) aren't as dependent on installed printer drivers. At least you don't
get the question about embedding printer information.
