Publisher's future?

Thanks, Chris
We're on the same page. I DID mean, "might Publisher come out with a more sophisticated version". I think sometimes people read these questions and start replying vs. reading it again and "listening" a little before their fingers start to fly. I've looked at books for QuarkXpress and Photoshop. On page 1 they both begin as though I've worked with it for two years. And I'm not a stupid guy. They presume that if you want to learn one of their products then you must be so (computer or graphics) sophisticated that you don't really need the book you're reading. I'm enjoying MS Publisher and Paint Shop Pro w/no prob. If I could find a book or CD that teaches beginers FROM THE BEGINNING, that would be a whole paradigm shift in the computer learning world.

Thanks...you and others have made me feel better about not missing much in QuarkXpress. I'm enjoying Pub 2003. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft "betters" Publisher as the years go on...instead of just adding more design sets. It's so intuitive

I've been using virtually all of the applications out there for graphic
production for over 20 years

Some I like better than others, but I'll output from any of them

In earlier versions of MSPublisher I often would ask a customer bringing i
a Publisher file to sit and watch when I brought it up...and it reflowe
text horribly, almost exploding off the page

The purpose was to get them to include fonts and a hard copy with thei
submission; it usually worked. Sometimes I never saw them again

That said, the current version (03) impresses me, although I am not much o
a document creator. The catalog merge feature seems less customizable tha
Ventura's database publisher, for example, but it is quick, easy, and can d
a darn good job

The current ability to output cmyk composite from essentially rgb data i
excellent. Better than PageMaker or Xpress, IMHO

I've not seen many pub files where the user was familiar with paragrap
styles but they seem to work very well in Pub

Overall, Publisher is a good app for creation of a variety of differen
documents. I'm not sure I'd use it for a 600 page book but I really don'
see a lot of commonly needed functionalities that Pub lacks that other
have

ok, thanks for that,........ i am now informed by serif that wepplus 9 is part of pageplus 9.
I have a copy coming tomorrow, to try.
I dont know a lot about html, just what I have had to learn since the fateful google "florida" and now "brandy"
updates, which knocked me and 10's of 1000's of others off their search engine.
The very strange thing, is that out of all optimising that I have done, finally got it up to page 1. Now after googles brandy, they are using my cached pages pre "florida" so I have now uploaded the site I had then.
its so time consuming.

|| Is frontpage as easy to use, or is it purely html?

FrontPage is not only the BEST selling web page application, but it is VERY
easy to use, especially since it offers a WYSIWYG interface (what you see is
what you get). You can design your webpage in a layout similar to Publisher.
There are millions of people that use it every day. You should have a peek
at the frontpage public newsgroups.
