Publishing: Category Permissions

Raymond Salvador

Hi,

is it really necessary to enable the following category permissions:

- Edit Enterprise Resource Data
- View Enterprise Resource Data

to be able to publish successfully?

we have tried to remove this permissions but still office project prompts for publish sucessful..but when the user check for the My Tasks, the task assigned to him is not showing..

this happens when new local users are added from office project..also, when we try to publish an mpp with existing users already in PWA it prompts to rename the local resource instead of overwriting the enterprise user..

may i know the other effects on enabling these permissions?

note: i'm really new to project server..about 2 weeks only and i'm doing this tasks because it was reassigned.. :) .. thanks!

Project Managers must have the ability to view resource data in order to do
their jobs. Editing resource data permission is not required unless you're
doing things like you describe in your post, namely adding local users
within projects and then expecting the system to automatically map the
resource, which requires the edit resource data permission and this part of
the program also includes an import capability. If you don't want to give
PMs permission to edit resource data, then make sure that they only use
Build Team to acquire resources for their projects.

i'm thinking that we may need to edit since when we are publishing..the office project always prompt for renaming a local resource who's already added in the PWA site..

may i know who are the default group who can publish w/o any permission issue..and what categories they may need to be member of..

and lastly..what readings do you recommend for these..i've scanned already in technet/msdn papers..

many thanks!

I suggest that you teach your users how to use Project Server properly. Your
problem is your process not your configuration. If you train your users
properly, this will not be an issue.
