Publishing Difficulties

K

Still having publishing difficulties. To narrow down, we have Ghost Surf and Norton Anit VIrus on our computer and am wary that is effecting the publishing, if yes, how?

Also, experts on this site have been excellent in providing assistance and links to help toubleshoot publishing that the server should be able to do to assist. Not getting service from my host as I am new at website and did not ask right questions when signed up. Do particular hosts speicaialize in Front Page?

Hopelessy unable to publish.....

Thanks again in advance for advice, this forum is excellent

what are the exact symptoms of your publishing failures and can you post the
url you're trying to publish into?

Everrything from "Front Page could not parse" to server error 500 contact your server administrator and on and on. Form help in this forum I have gathered it may be server issues, or perhaps extension issues. The problem , my first host was rogers and very little assitance so I moved to a host that had "Front Page" extentstions. I was not able to post (parse pop-up) and they have yet to get back to me. I think I am more concerned with moving to a host that could trouble shoot those issues.

Added to that, I want to ensure my norton and ghoshSurf pro are not problems.

The only way to determine if Norton or ghoshSurf are the issue is to completely disable them or
install them.

What version of FP are you running?
What OS are you running?
How are you opening your site in FP?
How are you publish your site to the remote server?

Well, the only way to determine if a program is offending is to turn it off or disable it. Try one at a time to determine which it is. Also, a likely suspect could be a firewall.

Ok, try opening your site on the remote server via FP, File Menu | Open Web and enter the URL and
your login info.

I am now getting a message that says "can not find web server at "url" on port 80. please check with the web name is valid and that your proxy settings are set correctly. This is just the latest in a long list of publish pop-up windows. ..... i would really like to nail what it is I am doing wrong. It feels like my site is not reaching the server properly but I don't understand that process well enough.

Disable Norton and the other application and since this is a new host, has it been more than 72
hours since your moved your domain to this host?

Make sure you are entering either http://www.yourdomainname.com or http://www.yourdomainname.com/

you need to set the dns settings to what the host requires.

contact the host and see what their dns settings are. there will be 2
strings like:
NS1.DNSxx
NS2.DNSxxx

then log into wherever your domain panel is and change the DNS settings to
whatever the host requires. be sure to change them and not just add the new
dns to the list.

Let me know if this fixes the problem.
