Publishing error "access is denied" for one particular user

S

Steve Fisher

I am able to publish projects just fine when logged in to the network
with my username. But another user cannot publish successfully even
though he is able to save projects to the server with no problems. We
both log in using Project Server authentication under the
Administrator account. If I log in to the network on his PC and log in
to Project Server as Administrator, I can publish projects just fine.

When this user tries to publish (Collaborate > Publish All
information) in MS Project Professional 2002, he gets an error about
an unrecognized response from the server. When I click the "View"
button the error is displayed in the web browser and the only
description is "Error: access is denied".

What's going on? I have read many posts with suggestions about how to
fix publishing problems with Project Server, but nothing I've tried
has worked. I've read MS KB 810596 and tried the suggestions for
setting ViewDrop folder permissions, DSN settings, and repairing
damaged COM+ passwords. Nothing has worked. Why does publishing not
work for this user? It must be a permissions issue, but I can't
pinpoint the setting that is incorrect in my installation.

TIA for any help or ideas you might have.

Microsoft???? Hello? Some help would be greatly appreciated. This is a
very frustrating problem and it just has me cursing Project Server
more than I already was when it was working properly.

Steve:

If you want to speak with someone from Microsoft, you'll need to contact
Microsoft Support. If nobody responds to your post, assume that either the
question isn't well enough defined to respond to or you've stumped the
experts.

These types of problems can be caused by a myriad of reasons. You say you
can logon from the user's machine, can the user logon from your machine? Do
you see errors in the application log on the server generated when the user
attempts to connect?
