Publishing error accessing Windows Sharepoint Services

S

SAP

This has really got me stumped! I have searched the entire microsoft site,
entered a GOOGLE search with no resolution to my problem. I got so upset
last night I reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled Windows XP
Professional, Microsoft Office 2000, Visual Studio 2003, and Frontpage 2003
and FP 2002 Server Extensions.

However, the same error message keeps dogging me! "An error occurred
accessing your Windows Sharepoint Services site files. Authors - if
authoring against a Web server, please contact the Webmaster for this
server's Web site. Webmasters - please see the server's application event
log for more detail".

I am trying to publish from a web site located on my CDRW to my local XP
Professional Web server on my home computer. This site was published to my
CDRW using frontpage 2003 to take home. My Work Web server is running
Windows 2003 Web Server. I can publish fine at work with Frontpage 2003
running on a Windows 2000 Professional SP4.

This just started happening about a week ago. I even broke down and
installed Windows XP service pack 2.

You need to copy the web from the CD to a folder on your HD, then open that folder in FP and publish
it to http://localhost/webname.

I had exactly the same problem as SAP.

My problem arose due to the fact that my development machine had changed
domains due to network changes and had left old accounts in the Access
Control Lists (ACLs), and their names were not resolvable from their security
IDs (SIDs).

Refer to Knowledge Base Article 260159 "An error occurred accessing your
FrontPage web files" error message when you create a new subweb or view
Permissions in FrontPage 2000"

In my case I was using FrontPage 2003. The fix in the article solved my
problem.
